【摘要】:Theprimaryadvantagesofultrasonictestingarethatityieldscompressionandshearwavevelocities,andultrasonicvaluesfortheelasticconstantsofintacthomogeneousisotropicrockspecimens(3).Elasticconstantsarenottobecalculatedforrockshavingpronouncedanisotropybyproceduresdescribedinthistestmethod.Thevaluesofelasticconstantsoftendonotagreewiththosedeterminedbystaticlaboratorymethodsortheinsitumethods.Measuredwavevelocitieslikewisemaynotagreewithseismicvelocities,butoffergoodapproximations.Theultrasonicevaluationofrockpropertiesisusefulforpreliminarypredictionofstaticproperties.Thetestmethodisusefulforevaluatingtheeffectsofuniaxialstressandwatersaturationonpulsevelocity.Thesepropertiesareinturnusefulinengineeringdesign.Thetestmethodasdescribedhereinisnotadequateformeasurementofstress-waveattenuation.Also,whilepulsevelocitiescanbeemployedtodeterminetheelasticconstantsofmaterialshavingahighdegreeofanisotropy,theseproceduresarenottreatedherein.Note28212;Thequalityoftheresultproducedbythisstandardisdependentonthecompetenceofthepersonnelperformingit,andthesuitabilityoftheequipmentandfacilitiesused.AgenciesthatmeetthecriteriaofPracticeD3740aregenerallyconsideredcapableofcompetentandobjectivetestingandsampling.UsersofthisstandardarecautionedthatcompliancewithPracticeD3740doesnotinitselfassurereliableresults.Reliableresultsdependonmanyfactors;PracticeD3740providesameansofevaluatingsomeofthosefactors.1.1Thistestmethoddescribesequipmentandproceduresforlaboratorymeasurementsofthepulsevelocitiesofcompressionwavesandshearwavesinrock(1)andthedeterminationofultrasonicelasticconstants(Note1)ofanisotropicrockoroneexhibitingslightanisotropy.Note18212;Theelasticconstantsdeterminedbythistestmethodaretermedultrasonicsincethepulsefrequenciesusedareabovetheaudiblerange.Thetermssonicanddynamicaresometimesappliedtotheseconstantsbutdonotdescribethemprecisely(2).Itispossiblethattheultrasonicelasticconstantsmaydifferfromthosedeterminedbyotherdynamicmethods.1.2Thistestmethodisvalidforwavevelocitymeasurementsinbothanisotropicandisotropicrocksalthoughthevelocitiesobtainedingrosslyanisotropicrocksmaybeinfluencedbysuchfactorsasdirection,traveldistance,anddiameteroftransducers.1.3Theultrasonicelasticconstantsarecalculatedfromthemeasuredwavevelocitiesandthebulkdensity.Thelimitingdegreeofanisotropyforwhichcalculationsofelasticconstantsareallowedandproceduresfordeterminingthedegreeofanisotropyarespecified.1.4Thevaluesstatedininch-poundunitsaretoberegardedasstandard.ThevaluesgiveninparenthesesaremathematicalconversionstoSIunitsthatareprovidedforinformationonlyandarenotconsideredstandard.1.5Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
